Tyre Repair Near Me: What Can Be Repaired?
If your tyre has been punctured, a repair can save you the cost of a new tyre, but only some damage can be repaired safely. A mobile tyre repair technician can check on site.
Damage that can usually be repaired
- A nail or screw hole in the central tread area
- A small puncture that has not been driven on while flat for long
The correct method is to remove the tyre from the wheel, inspect the inside and fit a repair that seals the hole from inside the tyre. This follows the British Standard BSAU 159.
Damage that cannot be repaired
- Sidewall damage, cuts or bulges (see why a bulge is dangerous)
- Holes near the shoulder of the tyre
- Punctures larger than the limit for repair
- Tyres worn to or near the legal tread limit
- Tyres damaged by being driven while flat
A plug is not a repair
Plugs inserted from the outside without removing the tyre are not an accepted permanent repair. Ask your fitter how they repair it.
Repair or replace?
If the tyre is unrepairable, we can fit a new one at the same visit. Read puncture repair versus a new tyre to see how that decision is made, then book mobile puncture repair or emergency help if you are stuck.
